What Are Bee Stings?

Dear Readers,

Greetings! I'm Bee Reed. I am currently a rising Senior at the University of Pennsylvania. I'm also currently an aspiring free-lance Stage Manager. Now, you may all associate the phrase "beestings" with something that you perhaps have experienced over the summer while picnicking with your family, hiking, swimming, etc. I'm sure that they weren't pleasant, but you probably learned at least something from the experience, and for better or for worse, you had a slightly different perception of the world as a result. (Even if that perception was: bees suck - keep me away!)

And that, my friends, is what Bee Stings are. They are learning opportunities that will hopefully change someone's perception of the world. However, these particular Bee Stings - the ones you'll find on this blog - are hopefully going to be much more thought provoking than the bee stings you're used to having. And, hopefully, the conversations I start here will continue into the lives of all you lovely readers! Please take these topics about which I write as a spring-board for conversation. But, please do NOT take the things about which I write, or the things that I write about the things I'm discussing, to be anything near factual. I want to make it very clear - the things written here are my personal opinions based on my personal life experiences. Unlike many bloggers whom I've come across, I do not want anyone to think that I take any of these ideas to be fact or set in stone. I welcome - and in fact encourage - disagreement with, counterarguments against, and debate of all my blogs. After all, if we can't discuss provocative and controversial topics with one another open-mindedly, how will we ever move forward as a society?

So, I hope that you understand what this blog is for. If you don't hopefully my next few posts will make it a bit more clear. As far as topics - I will be writing letter-formatted (such as this post) responses to political and cultural happenings in the world. I give you all fair warning: I'm an animal loving, vegan, liberal, queer lady who was raised by sociopathic religious fundamentalists - you can probably infer from a lot of that where I will stand on many issues in the political sphere.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy this blog! Prepare yourself for some Bee Stings: I hope you're not allergic!

Cheers,
Bee

  1. This is cute, Kelby! Not in the "Aw, I think what you're doing is adorable because I'm a condescending jackass" way but in the "This is a clever and funny way to say something interesting." Good job and good luck!
